The Island

The second largest barrier island along the east coast, Hilton Head Island is 12 miles long and five miles wide. Our pristine island has over 12 miles of beautiful beaches, over 30 miles of bike trails, 30 golf courses, and 300 or more tennis courts. Hilton Head has over 200 restaurants and is a shopper’s paradise. There is something for everyone! The environmentally developed and preserved nature of the island offers endless activities in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The island is surrounded by scenic salt marshes and wetlands. The lush landscaping adorned with palm trees, exotic plant life, and hundred year old oak trees covered in Spanish moss, make Hilton Head Island the ideal vacation. Beaches Our pristine white-sandy beaches are the ideal place for fun and relaxation. Hilton Head has more than 12 miles of beautiful beaches. All beaches are public from the ocean to the edge of the dunes which enables visitors a great place for biking, strolling, flying a kite, reading a book, or building the perfect sandcastle. The Beach Park and Westin beaches offer easy public access, showers, and restrooms. On the beach, the life guards have beach chairs, umbrellas, catamarans, and beach bikes available to rent.

 Bicycling - Bike Rentals

A biking paradise, Hilton Head offers over 30 miles of bike trails and 12 miles of hard-packed sandy beaches. Whether you prefer a beach bike, tandem, or three-wheeler, there are many bike rental companies on the island that offer the convenience of delivering directly to your home or villa. These companies also offer a wide assortment of child carriers and seats to suit your needs. You may call to arrange for your bikes to be available upon arrival.

Shopping remains a favorite island pastime with a variety of unique shops and boutiques. The island consists of many different plazas, marinas, and outlets filled with hundreds of interesting stores and restaurants.

Wildlife
 
Our eco-friendly island with surrounding salt-marches and wetlands make the island a nature-lovers paradise. Everywhere you look, careful attention is paid to the environment. It is impossible to miss the the abundance of exotic birds, dolphins, and alligators. In addition to many natural parks and forest preserves, Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge has over 14 miles of trails for exploring by foot or bicycle.

Fun Daytrips
 
Bluffton 
Moments over the bridge you find a charming historical town with an intriguing art district, antebellum homes and churches, and a unique shopping experience. Artists, potters, and photographers maintain their shops in a relaxed lowcountry setting. Overlooking May River, the town of Bluffton was settled in the early 1800’s and encompasses civil war buildings in addition to homes and churches over 200 years old. Walking tours of Old Bluffton are available through the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society.
 
Daufuskie Island 
The Daufuskie Island Resort’s spa and golf courses are good reasons to visit this unspoiled island. Accessible only by boat, Daufauskie is rich with Gullah culture and history. Since the island is free of cars and other motorized vehicles, you may want to rent a golf cart and explore the 5,000 acre island for yourself.
 
Beaufort 
Located just 40 minutes north of our island, Beaufort, South Carolina is a town beaming with a unique romance and history. The best way to see and learn why Beaufort is so rich in culture and charm is to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the old city. Take a ghost tour, learn about Beaufort’s role in the Civil War, or Gullah heritage, In addition to its Southern heritage, visitors are drawn to Bay Street for its gift shops, art galleries, eclectic boutiques, and antique stores. Take a stroll along Beaufort’s scenic waterfront or eat lunch with a breathtaking view of the river. Learn and see for yourself why Beaufort has been the backdrop for numerous Hollywood films.
 
Savannah 

Only 35 minutes south of Hilton Head, Savannah, Georgia is the ultimate daytrip! From River Street’s cobblestone streets filled with shops, bars, and restaurants to the quaint squares and architecture, Savannah is a must see! Old-fashioned trolley, horse-drawn carriage, or walking tours are a popular and informative way to begin your journey. Consider taking a riverboat cruise, ghost tour, or shop in City Market or along Broad Street. If you have a taste for history, Savannah’s forts can offer an interesting insight into its war heritage.
 
Charleston
A two hour drive away, Charleston is a city rich in culture and history. Charleston has a wonderful blend of past and present. Discover this historic town by horse-drawn carriage or walk through the open air market. Charleston is home to 300 year-old churches and homes with beautiful gateways and gardens. This city is a bustling college town focusng on keeping its history alive! Visit one of the old plantations or just shop and eat downtown by the water. See where the Civil War began with a boat excursion to Fort Sumter. Relax at the battery and take a glimps at the homes that make up the picturesque Rainbow Row. Whatever you decide to do, Charleston is a memorable time!
